About

"Whatever it is you're doing, keep doing it!" - Simon Purcell 2015

Daniel Gray is a freelance trumpeter and teacher based in South East London and the South Coast. Having grown up on the brass band culture Dan soon found a love of jazz and improvisational music after joining SYJO; a youth jazz orchestra run by award winning mentor Dan Mar-Molinero. During this time Dan had the opportunity to perform and learn with modern Jazz talents such as the Kairos 4tet, John Surman and Jean Toussaint.

After this exposure Dan sought lessons from Dan Mar-Molinero and was later accepted into Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance on the Jazz Course.

He is now in his third year of the course and already boasts performances at Ronnie Scott's with the Trinity Laban Jazz Ensemble, The EFG London Jazz festival with TL's Contemporary Jazz ensemble as well as multiple gigs with groups of various genres including South American Fusion Band Manzana Tropical, The Mick Collins Legacy Jazz Orchestra and his own Sextet co-lead with saxophonist James Akers The Vic and Dougie Six.

Dan has performed at various prestigious venues across London including The Blues Kitchen, The Forge, Oliver's Jazz Club and The Hospital club.

He is also an in demand session and function musician performing and recording with a plethora of acts including:  The Talent Band, Feedback and the Soul Collective. Dan's latest session includes an appearance on the latest Nico Cabrera album.
